These tips are for Microsoft's Windows NT 4.00, I don't suggest you to try them in older or newer NTs. And these tips only help you to play games in NT (as every NT user knows that is almost impossible). I'm not responsible for any damage that these tips might cause to your computer, they worked in my computer...
DOS games:
Every game running in DOS is started with a thing called MS-DOS but I call it "rävellys". MS-DOS (I mean the "real thing") is the most succesful operating-system ever created, it never crashed and all options needed to set only once. However this thing coming with Windows 95/98/NT isn't anywhere near the real MS-DOS, but it still can be easily configured so that every DOS game will work in it. Just follow these tips...
- Choose my computer/configuration panel/MS-DOS and you should see a dialog where you can edit basic things...
- In Windows NT's system32 directory (e.g. c:\winnt40\system32) you can find a file named CONFIG.NT, edit it in the same way that real DOS' CONFIG.SYS. You should set FILES and BUFFERS to at least 20 (e.g. BUFFERS=20)...
- Also similiar file to AUTOEXEC.BAT can be found at system32 directory (AUTOEXEC.NT)...
- Remember to define all drivers like CD-ROM's, sound card's and mouse's to the CONFIG.NT and AUTOEXEC.NT!
WINDOWS games:
As you might already know that it is inpossible to install any DIRECT X to NT, they are vital to games. These tips will help you to install DIRECT X-wannabes to your NT. Games that say "xxx needs Windows 95 to be installed in your computer!" are inpossible to use but there are only few of them...
- Always have the newest Service Packs in your NT. Service Pack 3 includes DIRECT X 3, that will get few games work...
- With this tip you can get almost all Windows games work, this is also quite dangerous to your computer so I suggest that you backup your system files before doing this! Download DIRECT X 5 to your NT! I said earlyer that there isn't a way to install DIRECT X to NT, but this DIRECT X 5 is special; it is just some files from NT 5.00. This worked for me perfectly! N.B! I haven't found this yet, coming soon!
